Adding run from side of return vent ok?

Hi all,

I'm finishing my basement and currently in the HVAC phase. I got a quote from a local company to add ductwork, and they proposed adding two return vents side by side (green squares in picture) and tapping into the return on the side of the duct (red circles).

The location of where they're going to cut in worries me a bit because it's so close to the main unit, (all the other return runs start at the top of the return duct), but does this look ok to you guys?

Thanks!

When I finished my basement 18+ years ago I installed my basement returns similar to those proposed by the heating company. I used start collars and 6" flexible piping similar to dryer exhaust piping. Mine were mounted lower than your red marks indicate. They do not have to be mounted a specific distance from the furnace or on a horizontal run of duct. They work great.

Thanks steamboy! That makes me feel better about the location - seems like it will be a pretty simple run from that close!
