Small Inline Fan?

Hi All,

I have a sub-terrain basement pantry which happens to have a 3/4 inch hollow PVC pipe running to the outdoors. The 3/4 inch pipe is not currently used for anything.

Id like to connect a small fan to draw cool air through the pipe from the outdoors. Is anyone aware of a mini inline fan set up that I could use to create a low volume fresh air draw? My plan is to plug the fan into a smart plug which I will program to turn off once the temperature drops below 62 degrees.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

A small pancake fan will do it.
Basically the same as the ones used in computer power supplies.
They are efficient and last forever.

This is the way I would do it.
Please note that it does not mean it is the correct way.

First I would run the fan free air so I have an idea of it's speed and how it sounds.
Then I would jiggery pokery an enclosure out of cardboard, a shoe box would do.
Then attach that to the pipe and check that you are getting a draw and that the fan is not laboring.

If it is laboring I would poke a hole in the end back of the pipe so any air entering flows over the end of the pipe and then out past the fan. Add holes till the fan runs OK and you still get a draw.
Once that is all OK I would replicate it in wood or sheet metal.

Those prop fans can't move air under resistance. You will not be able to move air in the 3/4 inch pvc.
