Kitchen hood ducting

Hello,
looking for advice on venting my kitchen hood to exterior. I have 2 story home with the current hood placed in the middle of the kitchen, my question could I run the kitchen hood ducting through the ceiling joists void out the exterior? Thank for any help

Yes, through a joist bay is a common routing. First, make sure you know the size of duct your hood will need. They can be quite large for some. Then pick a routing. You want to avoid 90 bends as much as possible and then try to keep the duct run as short as possible. You can vent out the side wall of your house or through the roof.

Pilot,
Awesome thank you for the info! Would you recommend rigid or flexible ducting? My hood requires 6 inch and the run would be 6 to 8 ft.

Rigid would be better but flexible is ok for that short of a run.
