Question location of basement cold air return duct

My house does not have a cold air return from the basement. I could use such a return to circulate a lot of cooler air from the basement in summer. Were would be the best location of such a return duct added to the existing ducts?

oh standard forced air gas heat and cooling .
Should the return be near the furnace or further from it . ???

thanks George

It doesn't really matter, the air from top or bottom is about the same, but don't expect a lot of change, that small amount of cool air in the basement is not going to make a significant difference throughout the house over a period of time,

I would put it in the spot where the air typically circulates the least in the basement to encourage airflow throughout the space.
