"clicking" fridge

I have a Chevrolet Coldspot fridge which makes "clicking" noises when it turns on. It clicks on, then clicks off, clicks on, clicks off, and does this up to seven times before the fridge actually kicks in. What could the problem be and should it be fixed. The fridge is still cold and so is the freezer, but it is very annoying.

Hello Chainers and Welcome to the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Chances are that clicking noise is comming from the starter on the compressor motor. Not something for a do it yourself person to tackle. It's not the electrical current to be so concerned with, it's the refrigerant loss and replacement that will result.

It is possible this problem could be just a bad start relay. We use a kit called an RC0-410. You should beable to purchase this for around 25-30 bucks at any Appliance store. Installation is pretty simple and the people at the Appliance store should beable to help you with this. We do atleast. If the relay doesnt fix your problem then most likely you need a compressor which would mean buying a new Frig.
