Hello RayandJen and Welcome to the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
It very well could be the door lid switch. Try holding the lid switch button down with a rubber handled thin screw driver. Keep the door opened during this process. Attempt to run the washer and note what happens.
If the machine begins to operate, the problem is the switch. Chances are the switch is not broken and this test cannot be done. If the machine will not operate, the switch is damaged.
Access may be gained by removing some screws on the lower front of the front panel. Or there may be clips between the top and the front panel.
If there are clips, may be visable using a flash light to look between the top and the front panel. The clips push backwards to release the lip fron the front panel. An old credit card often works when slipped between the two parts.
If you open the lid, be sure the power is off or the plug is removed from the wall socket. Than look for a fuse on the main power cord inside the machine. Some machines have fuses.
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, downloadable repair and or owners manuals which may be available online.
Another possibility may be to search the manufacturers web site for a downloadable version of the owners or service manual. The file will be a pdf file opened with Adobe, which also needs to be downloaded but worth having the Adobe once obtained.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.
