Whirlpool washer, no spin

Got a Whirlpool washer, model no. LSR7233EQ0 direct-drive, that doesn't want to go into the spin cycle unless you lift the lid and activate the switch. It sounds like the drive is not kicking in. Lift the lid, set it down, and it catches.

Does this sound like a lid switch?

Is the tab that activates the switch broken off?

If you have to raise the lid then close lid and it starts to spin, sounds like the nuetral drain in the tranny is bad.

Hi: Jeff

The lid safety switch is most likely defective, since opening the lid and closing it again often solves the problem, based on how I am reading the problem description.

With that thought in mind, my suggestion would be to check the switch first. Internally may not be making connection each time.

Might also be the door lid itself. Not closing fully as a result of being loose on the hinges, bent or distorted, etc. Also check the safety devices tab (other half) on the door.

If it can be determined to be the door safety switch, not a difficult part to replace nor expensive. Most likely worth a try. The other possible causes noted prior are also possibilties too.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Also have the part. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.
