Whirlpool icemaker freezing up

Whirlpool icemaker freezing up
I have a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator ~1991 model ED25RQ. Its been a great refrigerator, except for one habit its developed in the last year or so. The water inlet for the icemaker freezes up. It just freezes right where the water comes out. I use a blow drier to thaw it every month or so, and it works for a while. But, then it happens again. Any ideas what would cause this? I'm usually pretty handy, but I don't know much about refrigerators.

Looks like a water supply problem meaning either the water
inlet valve in the back of the frig is allowing water to seep
past it even when its turned off. Or if you have one of those small
saddle shut off valves it may be partially restricted not allowing
enough water pressure to get to the inlet valve. Ive seen both
cause freeze ups at the fill tube. The saddle piercing shut off valve
is a common culprit when it comes to ice maker problems.

The icemaker line is a copper tube connected to a standard 3/8" valve. Also, since the problem has been getting gradually worse, I'd guess that its the inlet valve. Are these difficult to replace?

I have the same fridge you have. I need to purchase a new seal for it. I am contacting you because I had an issue with the drawers falling out of the fridge. I used two machine screws placed in the end of the pegs that hold the drawer to end the problem. It centered the drawer and has never fallen out again. I wish I had if on you icemaker issue. If you know of a good source for a seal email me at rmauch@fuse.net
