refrigerator making a clicking noise

I have an RCA refrigerator (now owned by GE) that started making a loud "clicking" noise a few days ago. Clicks about once a minute. My husband pulled the refrigerator from the wall and opened up the back. He noticed that whenever it clicks an electrical arc is present. The arc is coming from in behind the relay. He took out the relay and the overload and took them to the parts store to order new ones. The guy at the parts counter took a meter to them and said they were still good. They even look good (no signs of wear or black dust from the spark). He put the parts back in and the electrical arc is still there, about one a minute. Any ideas?

Was the compressor working? I suspect that's where the problem is and the relay/overload is just doing it's job. Now might be a good time to consider a new refrigerator... Several places offer 0 interest 0 payments for a year financing - take the savings from your electric bill and put it in the bank. When the year is up, you'll probably have enough to pay off the new fridg.
