GE Double Oven Broiler Element Problem
I have a GE Oven model JHP67G. The lower broiler element was turned on to preheat. Unfortunately the oven door was left closed for about 15 minutes by mistake. When smoke was noticed coming out of the oven, it was opened and the broiler element was turned off to cool. When the lower broiler element was again turned on, it would not glow red or heat up. Would replacement of the broiler element solve the problem or are there other issues to consider?

Hi goldenboy,
-Unplug the unit and remove and check the element very carefully. Look for broken parts on the insulation and perform a resistance check. End to end of the element should be a very low resistance. Now check from each terminal along the insulation, should remain at infinity. Clean the mounting screws or clips carefully with a fine wire brush or 220 paper. Inspect the wires from this element, and the main terminal block for burning or loose wires. If any wire appears burnt where it is mounted, remove and clean both parts. Now refit the element (if it passed the tests) and try it. If it doesn't work then you need a new one
Do it Right - Do it once.
