Maytag washer not removing water
Hi,
During the last cycle there was about 1 foot of water left in the washer (model A8400). I ran it again and it filled completely with water and attempted to run all of the cycles without emptying.
When I start it at the spin cycle, the timer makes noises where it should be pumping the water out although I'm not really sure the noises are abnormal since I've never really listened carefully before. Also, the timer never stops - it will run through the spin cycle and start the next wash cycle.
It ran through one spin cycle full of water before I noticed so hopefully there is not any serious damage.
Any idea if it's the control timer or a valve/pump? I'm very good mechanically but I'm not sure about the diagnosis.
Thanks

It could be plugged hoses or a broken shaft on the impeller. Remove the hose and check for blockages. If clear then put your finger in the hole where the hose connects and turn the shaft. If the impeller isn't turning then it broke loose from the shaft. Good luck.

Thanks,
How do you get the top off of this unit? I can see the hinges in the rear but there appears to be a clip holding the down the front of the top. I need to get it off because the output tube is too long for my finger.

Maytag Dependable Care washer - how to take apart: In the last few years Maytag has used three different front panels. Locate the screws on the front panel and remove them, or locate the clips just under the front bottom corners of the front panel. Use a flat screw driver to release the front bottom clips. The bottom of the front should be pulled out towards you and then the top clips will disengage from the top panel. If your washer has a bleach hose, pull it off of the bleach cup. You will find two 3/8" drive bolts just inside the front of the top panel, remove them to lift the top panel back. Once you have the top panel tilted back, you are at the main functioning parts of the washer.

There was a pantyhose stuck in the impeller outlet - but I put it back together and the water still does not exit. Thus the impeller motor is probably burned or the shaft is broken, right?
Correction - looked up part and is driven from same belt as drum.

If you stick your finger in the hole where the hose hooks up, you should be able to feel the impeller. Turn the shaft from the other side. If the impeller does not turn, the shaft is broke.

Sorry majakdragon to drag this out - appreciate the help.
Impeller is OK but the impeller belt is very loose - I can easily move it 2" without the motor tensioner moving. I also remember smelling a burnt rubber smell during the original problem.
I'm surprised the tensioner is so weak. Seems like the slightest resistance would cause belt slippage. The impeller is adjusted for maximum belt tension.
I'll replace both belts and see what happens.
