smelly washer

Our kennmore washer(8 years old) is smelling really bad.We have run different cleaning solutions through it with only short term results. We only use it on the weekend to do 3-4 loads. Is the washer sitting idle to long or is there a dead rodent in there somewhere. The smell does not seem to be coming up from the drain. Is there a trap that has to be cleaned or any other hints?

Hi Nifty,
- is it possible for you to narrow down the area and type of odor. Also are you on septic or city drain, and on city water or well. Post back with more info and we'll see what we can do

Do it Right - Do it once.

Perhaps it leaves water standing in the drum. Try clicking the dial through cycles until the pump comes on. Try setting it to fill a minute, then set to drain and listen. The pump may be no good.

Leaving the washer door open will help keep the machine fresh.

Could be a dead rodent as you suggested but it would be on the floor under the machine.
