Ge Dryer Control Panel Humms And Wont Start

Ge Dryer won't start. Humming noise from motor area.

I have a 14 month old GE Dryer that will not start. I get a humming noise from the area of the motor. Does not turn.
Any ideas on what this might be?

Welcome to the DIY Forums.
What you may want to try is giving the drum a spin and quickly closing the door and turning it on. You may have a bad motor or the belt is tied up or broke. Watch this post for expert opinions of your problem. Good luck.

Kemore Dryer Starts Sometimes

I have a 9yr old Kemore dryer model: 110.96585210 Recently when I push the start button the motor(or at least I think it is the motor) kinda humms and the dryer will not start. If I hold the button in too long the humming will stop and then nothing will not happen for minutes. Then after pushing start button again the humming will continue. Sometimes if open the door and turn the drum with mt hand and then immediately push the start button the dryer will start and function properly although it does not sound right. When the drum turns it sounds kinda "rough" like something needs oiled. After running the dryer and then when I open the door to stop it, as the drum stops turning it squeaks real bad. Also note as the drum begins to turn after being stopped it also squeaks until it gets up to speed. Any ideas??Read More

Nifty on Jan 18, 2005

Our kennmore washer(8 years old) is smelling really bad.We have run different cleaning solutions through it with only short term results.We only use it on the weekend to do 3-4 loads. Is the washer sitting idle to long or is there a dead rodent in there somewhere.The smell does not seem to be coming up from the drain.
