Advice: Washer/Dryer

Hello -

I'm a first time home owner looking for advice on washer/dryers. I've been out looking a few times, and I've noticed that the price ranges from 300 to several thousand dollars. There is also the used route, but I'm not sure what the life expectancy of a washer or dryer is..

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance,

phobart, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
What you have to look at is what you need these units to do. Do you need ALL the cycles that some washers and dryers have? My personal thoughts on things with all the "bells and whistles" is that is just more stuff to go bad. I have always owned the low end machines with only the cycles I NEED. I also prefer new as that way you get a limited time warranty. I have bought used but always shopped at a place that had been around for a long time. You can look at the Consumer Reports magazine at a library to find what is considered the best buy for the money. Good luck in your search.
