Kenmore Refrigerator Beeping
#1

My Kenmore (Whirlpool) Model 106.53359300 refrigerator, purchased in 2003, began beeping about 2 weeks ago. The beeping comes from the electronic control panel in the refrigerator side, that controls the freezer temp., refrigerator temp., water filter status and AccelerIce Function. The control panel has become inactive (i.e., I can no longer use it to adjust temperatures, etc.). When a button on the panel is pushed, it simply toggles on/off the AccelerIce function. This happens even if a button other than the AccelerIce button is pushed. The panel seems to beep frequently when the door is opened. This causes the AccelerIce function to go on/off.
I have removed the control board and don't see anything obviously wrong. I could replace the board/control panel for about $150, but how do I know that the baord is the cause of the problem.
I can still purchase a one year service policy from sears for about $230.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Pendlm

Ever since this problem began I thought it was due to the electronic control panel. Finally, I removed the panel and washed it down with alcohol, cleaned the printed circuit board with alcohol and a Q-Tip, dried the entire assembly with a hair dryer, and sprayed the board with a spray designed to apply an insulating film.
The board has stopped beeping and the controls have worked now for several weeks. Not sure why, but I'm happy that it is working again.
