Dryer getting hot

Hi I have an electric dryer GE model DDE7206MDLWH SNHG19550G. On the top of the dryer in the left rear it gets very hot. Too hot to touch. It only did this when the dryer had temp control set to High. I replaced the thermostat with this description from Partselect.com:

268083 THERMOSTAT L258-50 (High Limit 1 $14.97 $14.97
Thermostat (Limit: 260-50))

Now the top gets hot to the touch no matter what temp. setting I set it at. Did I replace the wrong thermostat? Any other suggestions. I also replaced the timer. It was bad also. Thanks Tim

Make sure your dryer is venting strong airflow all the way to the outside. If it feels a little weak you need to clean it. If the proper airflow isn't moving across the operating thermostats, which cycle on and off at a much lower temp, 155-165F, they will never cycle off, and the temp. will continue to rise until the high limit therm cycles off. If airflow is good, and the vent isn't pinched somewhere, one of your operating therms could be bad.
