Washing machine trips GFI in Wash cycle only

My Magic Chef washer filled up OK with water, but when the wash cycle started, it tripped the GFI. Rinse and spin cycles worked fine. The water level was set at Low.

It also leaked during the fill cycle, but not during rinse.

Any idea what could be causing this?

The last time I used the washer, I had over-filled it with clothes (a little) and it worked OK, but there was a little puddle next to it when I went to pick up the clothes.

Thanks.

IM THINKING THIS WAS MADE BY MAYTAG... NEED TO TAKE FRONT PANEL OFF AND FILL WASHER AND WATCH F OR THE WATER LEAK.. 1ST ON LOW THEN MEDIUM THEN HIGH... THE LEAK MAY BE GETTING WATER ON THE MOTOR CAUSING THE SHORT AND BLOWING THE BREAKER...
