cracked washer tub

my husband and I just finished taking the bottom off of our ge profile washer to investigate a leak, hoping to only find a faulty or loose hose, we discovered that the outer tub has a 3 inch crack. Can this be fixed at least temporarly?

cracked tub

If this is a newer model with the plastic tub, then the tub is pretty much shot. I have used, in the past, some clear silicone and have had some success with that on smaller holes. If the crack is near the bottom or on the bottom of the tub then your chances are slim. You can try the silicone, but you have to silicone inside and outside the tub and let it cure for at least a day. If it still leaks, get another washer, preferably something like a whirlpool, stay away from G.E. products.

goto your local appliance parts place and ask if they have a slap stick... its a strip of plastic you can stick over the crack... instructions are on the box... it about 24 inches long and 2 inches wide....
