Question Kenmore Refrigerator Freezer not freezing

I have a Kenmore Side-by-side that is almost 5 years old. Last night I found water on the floor and discovered everything was defrosting in the the freezer and the ice was melting (reason for the water). I thought maybe the door had been left ajar so I made sure it was closed and went to bed. This morning I checked it and everything is thawed and the ice maker has water in it so it is not freezing. There is a clicking noise every now and then. It seems to be working but not freezing. The cold food side seems to be working correctly. I've called Sears but they are not coming out until Tuesday. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Thanks

Check your freezer thermoter. May need to turn it up some.

Kenmore Fridge

Clicking noise not good. Does the click seem to be coming from the bottom back of the fridge? Sounds like a bad relay on your compressor. Or worse yet,
a locked-up compressor. If compressor, & your refrigerator is less than 5 years old hopefully it will be covered under warranty. Dave

I had one where the the door was actually left ajar and it would not cool until I unplugged it for about one hour and plugged back up worked fine then. Might try that before going thru with the service call?

Since I wrote the first message, the cold food side has stopped cooling. The clicking sound does come from the back bottom. We tried flipping the breaker switch since we had a storm come through that morning and the electricity did go off for a short time. But still nothing. If it is the compressor, it sounds expensive. We bought in the summer of 2000 but I don't remember which month. Hopefully it will be covered. If not, I guess I'll be getting a new refrig. I'll let you know what the repairman says.

Thanks for your help.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I know it's been a long time. Thanks!

I addressed this issue recently in detail, and how to test compressor, for electrical (not mechanical) function, with a volt-ohm meter. It is one of the recent fridge threads, within a day or two.
