Maytag Washer drains, but only on spin

Hi.

I have a Maytag Atlantis washer, model # MAV6257AWW. I am having a seemingly unique problem-

The wash cycle seems fine. At the end of the rinse cycle, the pump immiediately turns on, but the unit also simultaneously starts to SPIN; (rather than pausing until the draining is complete) It continues to SPIN, while still full of water....then it continues to drain while spinning, but by the end of the spin cycle the clothes are still wet, though the tub is empty..(then I must manually spin the clothes again.)

The tub spins fast toward the end of the spin cycle, when it has completely drained, slow when the tub is full of water (obviously).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This washer spins as it drains; slow at first then faster as the water is pumped out. Your pump could be bad or it could have something in it causing slow drain. Also, your house drain could be partially clogged. Drain hoses on washer could be restricted with something . Have you washed any rugs with loose backing? This can clog washer pumps and lines. Something caught between the tubs maybe. Drain should be open where it enters standpipe. Less common- pulley and thrust bearing , belts, mator slides. Check the easy things first.

Thanks for the reply, will check it out.
As a sidenote, it seems strange to me that the unit spins and drains simultaneously....seems as though a seperate step or pause for draining would be less of a strain on the motor. Perhaps a bad design. (?)
