My GE washer is about 9 years old. When I did a towel load about a week ago they took a very long time to dry. I thought something was wrong with my dryer. Today I was doing a small dark load and at the end of the cycle it stopped spinning. It still make noise like its spinning but the tub is not moving. I also smelled something burning. Just a note...when the washer was about 1 1/2 yrs old the transmission needed to be replaced. What could the problem be and is it worth fixing? Should I just buy a new washer. The washer is used by just me. Thanks

I have what appears to be a Whirlpool-built Kenmore direct-drive clothes washer that has destroyed the liquid-filled ring on top of the tub because once it begins to really pick up speed in the spin cycle, the whole tub assembly scoots to the rear and begins to thump violently. I removed the cabinet and checked the suspension plate, but it seems to be in the proper position. I suspect it is whatever seal or gasket is beneath the tub but I have been unable to find any information on this area. It's not leaking and otherwise is an excellant machine. It is approx. 4-5 years old. Does any one have any information on a web site that covers this? ------------------ 8^
