Maytag Performa does not want to start.

I just was given a used Performa electric dryer.(Model#PYE3300AYW) It needed a cord, so I took the one off our old one, wired it correctly and nothing. The individual my wife got it from said it may need a timer. I am not to sure they are correct. I checked the power in my outlet and it's registering 247V, checked the connections, again 248V. So I assume that the dryer is getting the proper current but where is it not going.
Could it be the door switch?
