Whirlpool Washer - won't spin or agitate...

Now it just makes noise...

It will fill up.

A couple days ago it would work all the way to spin/rinse - then just sit there full of water. Had to manually take it to spin/rinse.But now - just noise after fill-up...

Help!

Whirlpool washer

If it will pump the water out but won't spin or agitate, the coupler between the motor & tranny is bad. To get at this you have to take the whole shell off the washer. Remove the screw on each side of control panel & tilt panel back over the washer. Remove the 2 clips on top of washer & pull plug for the lid switch. Tilt the whole shell towards you & lift off. You now can see the pump & motor towards front of machine. Remove the 2 clips on pump & pull off. Remove the 2 screws on motor clips & take clips off. Un-plug motor & remove. You will see half of the coupler on motor shaft & the other half on tranny. There are 3 ears on each half. Either the ears broke off or the rubber bushing that goes between them is rounded out. Coupler part # is 285852.

Dave - for the $12 plus shipping - it's worth a blind try!

Thanks.

The unit is only 6 years old - but gets put throught it's paces. I have never done anything like this - is there anything I should be aware of before I start?

Whirlpool washer

Should be pretty easy if you follow my instructions on getting to the coupler.
Don't make it a blind try. Get to the coupler & make sure its broke before you order a new one. Could be another problem but I'm betting on the coupler. A common problem on those washers. Dave

Thumbs up

Dave - you are the king of all appliances!

One of the peices is broken into 3 peices. We are absolutely thrilled (well, for having to fix our washer).

My wife even said that turns her on when I save money

Anyway - I took digi pics so I could put the thing back together the way it came apart.

Thank you very much. I thank you, my wife thanks you, our marriage thanks you.

Happy Holidays!

I'll follow up with how it turns out.
