Is it the CLEAN light that is flashing 7 times then a pause? This is a Whirlpool built dishwasher and that seems to be a common problem with the Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool dishwashers. It is a fault in the water heating circuit. The control is not detecting a 2-4 degree temperature rise in the water after the first 8 minutes of the wash cycle. Check for adequate water supply entering dishwasher and is circulating properly, Also check for loose wires at the control, thermistor, and heating element. Check the resistance of the heating element is 10-35 ohms. Check the door switch(s) are making good contact. There should be two switches there (plastic tub models) and one of them only completes the circuit to the heating element. If that switch doesn't close, the heating element will not energize. Check the door latch is seating properly and not misaligned.

You have to run the diagnostic cycle to clear the fault. (Heated Dry - Normal - Heated Dry - Normal) or (High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry) depending on the model.

Hope this helps....

You can also check on this website where they list the problem you are stating and it's also a good website in general to have with Whirlpool appliance probs..

http://www.servicematters.com

This site will help you diagnose the problem, the buttons may be called different depending on model. Good luck
