Question Kenmore front load washing machine - transmission problem?

My 4 year old Kenmore front-load washing machine has started leaving dark greasy smears and spots (in the pattern of the drainage holes) all over my clothes. Smells like motor oil.

Anyone know what the problem might be? Is it typical of front loaders? Is it a diy project to fix it?

Most likely its soap scum built up in the mahine,,,, you may want to run a cleaner (Washer Magic) thru it.. and about very 3 months run it thru..... my take couple of times to clean out

kenmore 417.xxxx = frigidaire

kenmore/frigidaire front loaders are notorious for having the bearing go causing the final spin to be loud, sometimes you get a thumping and/or brown stains on your clothes from the bearing grease leaking in to the wash. The bearing is built into the rear tub, $200 part and quite a job to fix.
