Good Dishwasher
What is a good brand of dishwasher to get. I just bought a new home and the dishwasher just went out. Nothing to expensive or elaborate. Just something that will last and gets the job done.

The question is really hard to answer because we do not know what you want/need the unit to do. Lots of bells and whistles available. Lots of different warranties. Some heat the water, some don't. Some with a few different cycles, some with many. Take a trip to the store and read all the descriptions on the units in your price range. Then go up and down from that range to see what you want/need. Good luck.

We have a Maytag Quiet Series 100 that we installed to replace a dead one about two years ago. It has the larger internal size (top to bottom) which is handy for bigger items. Runs fairly quietly and does a good job.
FWIW Consumer Reports recommends:
Fine cleaning, flexible loading, and quiet running:
Bosch SHU43C0, $580
Kenmore (Sears) 1603, $500
Whirlpool Gold GU2400XTP, $500
If price is important:
Whirlpool DU1100XTP, $435
Amana ADB1500AW, $330
The Sears Kenmore and the Amana are the "Best Buys" in their respective categories.
If you subscribe to Consumer Reports on-line ($26/yr) you can read all the reviews. I don't always follow their recommendations, but I've found them very helpful when doing research on products.

consumer report reviews about dishwasher
you can also log into your local library and read consumer reports archives on the library database for FREE. Just need a library card and do not have to have the online subscription to consumer reports. Just a FYI.
