GE washer clunking/not agitating
I have a GE washer, model WPSE4270A0WW, that clunks during the wash cycle and at the start of the final spin. I thought it was the transmission so I replaced it, but to no avail. I'm now thinking it could be the motor or clutch. This machine is only 5 years old. I don't know what to look at next....

some kind of timer?
I have the same problem with my GE washer of the same age. It has since gotten worse to where it gets hung up when there is 6 minutes left to a wash cycle -- all the time. When it begins to spin (either before rinsing or the final) it also starts clunking (causing lights to flicker throughout house).
I have found that when I reset the wash cycle it will agitate fine -- so, not the motor or tranny. When the spin acts up, I lift the hood and wait about 30 seconds (after which you can hear a faint click coming from the cycle selector). Lower the hood, and the spin cycle continues flawlessly.
It is, therefore, my unprofessional guess that it is some kind of timing mechanism getting hung up. Mine still clunks. Doing laundry has become an adventure now, although not a very exciting one.
