rust on dishwasher tray

The tops of the tines in our dishwasher trays are beginning to rust. I have heard of kits made up of small plastic tips and adheshive to fix the problem but have been unable to locate them. I've also considered cleaning the tines up and using the plastic dip solution that is available. Can't see spending $50 for a new tray. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

You may be able to find a product called Guardcote at Home Centers or appliance stores. It is a plastic paint that is made to endure the harsh detergents and heat. Paint on with self contained brush and let dry for 24 hours. Good luck.
