Cooktop Not Working
I have a 30 inch Maytag electric cooktop. One of the burners is not working at all. It was working in the moning and this evenning when my wife turned on one burner she heard a sound "phoop" then not thing happened. Ussually the coil element should burn red and the ON light is on. Now only the ON light is on, the burner stays cold. What would be the problem? Is there anything I can DIY? If yes then where to buy the part? Thanks.

The first thing to do is check the breaker. If the breaker is not tripped pull the burner out and put another like-sized burner in its place. (From your thread it sounds like this is a coil top not a glass top) If the replacement burner works then probably the burner is bad. If the burner doesn't work most likely the switch is bad.
You can buy parts online, Sears or other appliance retailer, or parts house. Be sure to have the model and serial number when buying the part. Good luck.

Thanks. My cooktop is a Maytag glass top model MEC5430B. The other buner work so breaker is not an issue. There is no other same size burner I can swap to test. If I can pull the coil out, I can measure the connectivity of the wire to see if the coil failed? Mostly I think of the coil is bad but the ON light is working properly when I turn on the burner so it's kind of confused me. When the coil failed the ON light should stay off, is it correct?
Maytag web site sells the coil for $35. Another site carries it, $40.
