Gurgling then vacuum fridge

This isn't really a problem--it's just I've never seen anything like this and thought you guys might get a kick out of it--and might even be able to tell me why it does this.

We just bought a house that had a fridge in it. It's a Whirlpool side by side with ice maker and ice/water in the door. It's not new, but it's not ancient either.

After you close the fridge or freezer the fridge emits a gurgling noise (sounds like it's created by water). If you immediately try to open the fridge again it's very difficult--there is a vacuum inside. If you wait a while and come back, it opens normally.

Is this a feature? Is it a hazard? Can it be explained?

That is normal, when you slam the door it displaces the air and kind of forces it from one compartment into the other and creates a suction.
