This machine has only started making this noise since we have moved. Now it makes a loud thumping/clicking noise in the rinse cycle and the first part of the spin cycle. It is worse depending on the heaviness of the load. If I don't stop the cycle, a burnt rubber smell appears.
A repairman said it needs a $200 new motor, but I was wondering why the motor would run fine on the other cycles, but just have problems in the rinse/spin cycle.???
Any advice? I hate to spend the money and then find out that wasn't the problem. Thanks for any help!

I would check the belt. Sounds like it might have a chunck missing from it causing the thumping till it gets up to speed. Also could be stretched & slipping causes the burnt smell. I agree with you on it not being the motor. Motor would act up on other cycles. Dave
