So last night at 11 pm the dryer starts making a new noise... thump thump thump. I take all the clothes out and start it up empty. Same thing... thump thump thump.
I open the door and slowly rotate the drum manually. Same thing... thump.
The sound "appears" to always be located around the same area... around the top of the unit and towards the left side.
Any ideas as to what might be the cause and/or solution?

Your dryer was built by Frigidaire. The most common things I have seen with those dryers is the upper felt glide on the top of the front panel assembly and the rear drum bearing wear out after the unit is about 4-5 years old. I would check the upper felt first since you are hearing the "thumping" near the front of the dryer.
