Change Dryer Vent to Side Discharge

My daughter has an Admiral Dryer model ADE7005AYW
and the space provided in her new home doesn't allow adequate space for the vent out the back. There is a knockout in the cabinet on the side, but before I tear into it I wondered if anyone has info on if there is provision inside for side discharge?

I've looked thru the manual and nothing is available there.

The installation manual (http://www.maytag.com/cust_serv/pdf_installation_manual/6_3901250.pdf) states this dryer is factory pre-configured for rear venting, and that a side vent kit accessory (#12001453) may be ordered from Maytag for $45.99.

Also, nothing wrong with cutting into the wall, if your daughter owns the house.

I like to include a very short section of flexible (metal) ducting near the dryer, to allow some movement.

 

I suspected that I was going to need some additional parts.

Your idea about cutting into the wall sparked a whole new thought train. Would have a pocket the depth of a 2X4 that way, which may allow enough space.

We had purchased one of the space saver devices but the only way to attach it and save any room was to attach it to the dryer first and then push it back and hope it lined up with the vent in the wall. No way to reach behind it to line things up or clamp to the vent in the wall.
