Kenmore won't quit filling w/water

Kenmore series 70 washer will not stop filling with water. I had to shut the water off to the washer and advance the it to spin cycle and used a screw driver to activate the lid switch. It then drained and went into spin cycle. I thought maybe I left the lid open when I started the machine(although I've had washer 10yrs and have left the lid open before and it never flooded).

So I then turned water back on to washer and activated the lid switch and watch it fill up. It never stops filling with water. I had to shut off water again to avoid another flood. I then advance dial to spin, closed the lid and it went into spin and drain cycle.

So once i clean up my flooded laundry room and garage and access my damages from water, I would love someone to suggest what to check first. It couldnt be the lid switch? or could it be?

Is there a water level sensor or water control valve??

Thanks for help in advance!

Welcome to the DoItYourself.com forums

No pro here, but it could be the water-inlet valve or the water level switch as shown here for basic troubleshooting on overfills:

Hope this helps some. Be sure to check back as others may chime in here
