Knocking sound from Fridge compressor

it's the insides of the Black Can - which I believe is the compressor. I was wiggling it last night to try and track down the noise, and it's the internals of the deal hitting the outside housing.
The fridge/freezer work fine, but this is annoying, esp after the defrost cycle at 4 am...
What's causing it? And what will it take to cure it? ( house call no doubt, + )Is it hurting anything to leave as is?

Whirlpool fridge - @ 6 years old (out of warranty naturally) if that matters.
Thanks

Compressor

Not much you can do about the compressor noise except start pricing a new fridge. Keep a close eye on the freezer temps. If they start rising its time to replace fridge. It sounds like the compressor is going out & its not worth the cost to replace.
