Kenmore fridge compressor gone?

Hey all, I have a 2002 kenmore side by side fridge. Its a 106 model. Lately I've been raiding the ice maker for my cooler and if you dont put it back just right the door is slightly cracked. Well ,this happened a few times and now the fridge and freezer wont cool. I let it sit for a few days and tried it again. When I plug it in the fan comes on then the compressor then there's a click coming from a relay on the left side of the compressor. The compressor then seems to shut off. Is the compressor gone or can I get a new relay?

Thanks a bunch.

Kenmore fridge

I'd give a new relay a try before I junk the fridge. Being only 5 years old, the compressor should last longer than that but then again, I had to tell a customer their 5 year old + 2 week compressor ( just out of warranty ) compressor was bad. They just don't make them like they used to.

I'll second that. I recently replaced one to cure same problem. I believe the 'relay' part mounted on the left of the compressor was the run capacitor. Not a very costly part. From memory it was like less than $15 I think. Fridge has run fine ever ince, for many months.

Thanks a bunch. The relay seems stubborn and i don't wanna break it. Should it just pop off?

Kenmore relay

Get me the complete model # of the plate inside fridge. I'll look it up where I get my parts. $50.00 seems way too much.
