Kenmore wall oven heats erratically
It is a 24" oven, 15 yrs old, no self clean function.
The oven doesn't heat to set temp, if you press to Much higher temp it finally gets to heating. (like 75 degrees higher)
The element is bright red. I have an oven thermometer that hangs on the rack, which has been accurate in the past and shows the Oven to be way off.
Anyway, the turkey roast is not going well, I am hoping to nurse it along for another 2 hours.
It is most difficult to find a 24" wall oven, last yr I looked because wanted self clean, and the prices were much higher than a regular size wall oven.
But I'm wondering by the time I call Sears etc. etc and they get parts.....................hmmm
Suggestions appreciated, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi bhk:
Happy T-Day. Almost every self clean oven out there is troublesome. Does your oven have the electronic control on the panel? If so, I'm thinking you might have a malfunctioning oven sensor. Look in the console for the tech sheet. It should give you some troubleshooting instructions. Most oven sensors are about 1080 ohms at 75 degrees. Can you post the model # of your oven?

Thanks for fast reply
It is Not a Self Cleaning, manual clean. Yes it has electronic control panel, which was hit by lightning and replaced several yrs ago.
Cannot get into console as oven is in use and hot
Model 911 4012190 Sears Kenmore
Serial 2s5645630
cooking along now, but temp not steady as previously discussed

Oven temperature control switches (thermostat) frequently fail. I currently have one that is 50 degrees+ at 200 and 135 degrees+ at 425!
If you have no knobs and just a touch pad, then adjusting an adjustable control knob obviously will not apply/help.
SOME t-stats have tiny eyeglasses-like adjustment screw to them to change reading by - I can't remember if it's about 25degrees or up to 75 degrees. Either way, it is a very limited amount. But you might want to see if yours has an adjustment screw. If not, you may need a new oven temp contol switch (or thermostat, whatever they call it for your unit)
Edit to add this: Make sure your oven gasket is intact. There are cases where leaking top door gaskets can wreak havoc on the controls (mainly with above the door controls) due to extreme heat escaping and getting into the controls. Also, if the gasket leaks this can cause the hot element to keep glowing longer than it should and cause a hotter temperature.

Thanx for input
Gasket seems ok, but cannot really see if without removing oven.
I called Sears re replacing thermostat or whatever.
You are right it is an electronic control panel
By the time I pay them to come & give estimate and replace a "probably expensive" part, at age 15 I guess it is time for a new one.
I know today's appliances are not made as well as the old ones, but at 15 yrs one wonders what will go next.
I have a local installer coming for a free estimate on installing a new one. As you may know, wall ovens (and openings) can be a bit tricky to measure, then may hit the Sears sale with a giftcard I received last Xmas!
