Dryer not heating need answer High limit thermostat

I have a Kenmore dryer model # 110.86873100 it runs but has no heat in any cycle of timer. I check many parts and found that the High limit thermostat L250-80F was bad and when I took it off it was burnt pretty bad it came off in 2 peices. The wires that hook to it the plastic covering was a little melted but not burnt through. What would cause this and I am going to get part tomorrow and install. Is there anything else I should check.

Make sure all lint is appliance brushed (my bigbox store sells these) and vacuumed out of dryer and ducting.

Key areas are below the lint screen, the holes in door or pre-screen that allow lint to even GET to the lint screen (if you have in-the-door-type screen), lint off the rubber door gasket, the blower wheel itself (the vanes that are curved can get lint-caked and lose some of their effectiveness, inside the dryer in area of the heating element (especially if you have the type element that does NOT ring around the rear behind the drum). [The other types are more susceptible to have lint get trapped and catch fire), then remove duct behind dryer and clean in the duct IN the dryer, then all the duct pieces outside the dryer, then the outside venthood and flapper attached to it so it operates.

Hi SM:

You'll get a kit that includes the high limit and a fusible link element together. Replace both.
