New Quality Well Built Side x Side Fridge?
I'm in the market for a new 25cu ft side x side refrigerator and it seems like the majority of the reviews I read on consumer opinion websites about the major brands you find at home improvement stores and appliance stores are negative, indicating that most popular brands are junk these days and that compressors and icemakers fail very fast.
Is there a particular brand that is old fashioned and built to last, particularly in the icemaker and compressor? I live in AZ and need ice and water regularly during the hot summers.
I have a Subzero from 1986 in my garage that's never had a problem. I wish it was smaller and had an icemaker and water dispenser through the door.

Electrolux is the WORLD'S largest appliance manufacturer, which surprises may people, as they think they just make vacuums. I think they are from Sweden. Just saw an ad for fancy appliances (induction stove?) on tv last night, from them. They have not had to jump on that bandwagon where so many mfg.ers are being boughten out by others.
Maytag was bought out I think by Whirlpool. Whirlpool I think is still good.
You can only believe so much of what you read. A call to an appliance store that has service technicians will tell you the real story!
..............
I came back to post about an irony about how here I am talking about Whirlpool, and there is post just below yours about a Whirlpool side by side - with a problem! Huh.
BTW, I have a wondeful Whirlpool that has never drifted from 0 to minus 10 in freezer and 32-35 in fridge section, in like 15 years. Not even a loose handle.

I think much of it depends on how long the model has been in production. The super-duper-fancy-shmancy latest thing on the sales floor, is normally going to have more problems then the model that has been in production for 7-10 yrs with only minor cosmetic changes.
We went shopping when we moved here to N. AZ last year, and while the $1800 fancy 3 door models looked nice, we wound up with a Maytag S x S, 24 cf, energystar, with a rebate and on sale, plus a 10% coupon for about $700. The girl said it was last years model, but then, I'm way more than last years model myself.
No problems at all, easy to move for cleaning, plenty of adjustability, quiet, big ice bin, filters readily available. What more could I ask for?

That it lasts more than one day past the waranttee expiration date - and there isn't something about it's design that makes service charges to be through the roof. Or that a cheap flimsy crisper bin does not cost $65 for just the 3 sides and extra for the facing, like the case of a fridge where I need one for, in a rental. They intentionally designed that support to the crisper cheesy. Very disgusting.

ouch ecman...Guess ya never know.
Take the crisper out and advertise it as having a built-in beer cooler section?

Get this: It sides, that it slides on, is thin like tissue paper (exaggerating just a little). Like - what were THEY thinking?! I was able to pvc fuse-weld it together last year, and bragged to the landlord how I saved him money. Now it is tearing elsewhere and everywhere. Didn't they know people would put 10 pounds of apples down there and the side guides could not hold any weight?
