defroster motor cause fridge to stop?
Have a side by side Kenmore fridge, 1985 era, that the defroster motor has been squeaking off & on for a good while. The fridge stopped cooling all at once. Could the defroster motor be the cause of the whole cooling process to stop? Cant go new for now cause of the size of the house door.

You could try to manually advance it by turning a little wheel on it. You might want to mark the wheel first though to see if it turns on it's own.

Yes it can, if it stops in the defrost cycle, nothing will work except the lights. What you can do is turn the defrost timer manually, and here is one way. You can use a small pocket knife blade to turn the knob that is in the center of the defrost timer. If that's it, the fans, and compressor will come on, and it will start cooling again. If you need to replace the timer, get the model number, unplug the refrigerator, remove the timer and take it with you, to make sure you get the right one. Good luck

Had to put this project on hold.. I have not taken apart the panel inside the freezer side of the fridge for a long time now, cant remember exactly what all was there. Can you tell me what the little wheel/defrost timer looks like so I know what to look for? Thanks a bunch for your info.
