I have a Kenmore refrigerator that is not making ice. It seems like the bar that stops it when full is broken. It will cycle and produce Ice one time and then stop. If I push the bar down until I feel a click it will run one more cycle then stop. The event I think caused this: It was over-filled and the ice had melted a bit forming a big block. I pulled that out and have had this trouble ever since. I didn't fight it or force anything, but I am afraid I caused the damage when I did that. I saw that new ice maker is about $130: A. does it sound like I broke it beyond repair or are there any suggestions on a fix? B. If I do need to replace, is it a tough repair? My handyman skills are high, but I have not done any appliance repairs beyond pulling the odd toothpick out of a valve on an old diswasher! Thanks in advance! I have a 8 year old Maytag washer and lately it occasionally 'sticks' on the part where it's filling up with water during the rinse cycle. It never makes it to the point where it's rinsing actually, just keeps filling up with water. The washer must have an overflow (thank God) otherwise I'd have a house full of water! I have to switch the dial to spin to start it spinning. It's the "Quiet Plus" line (14 cycles), but I can get an exact model number if that helps. Is this something I definitely need to get a service man out here to fix or is this something I might do myself?
