Kenmore Dishwasher leaking through vent

We own a 6 month old Kenmore Ultrawash Quiet Guard Deluxe Dishwasher that, as the subject states, leaks through the vent.

It has an active vent that closes during the cycle to keep the noise down and then opens at the end of the cycle to let the steam out. The problem is that some of the condensation from the steam collects in just inside of the "grill" and spills on the floor when the door is opened. We get about a 3" to 4" puddle after almost every wash.

We had Sears service come out. The first time the guy ordered and replaced the vent chamber and the solenoid, no fix. I have the used parts and really can't understand how it could ever not leak. Seems designed to work on hope and a prayer.

The second time a different guy told us that there's nothing that can be done about it, we should just wait longer after the cycle to open it. We run it in the evening and unload in the morning, can't wait much longer than that.

Our third call, we got the second guy again who just called us and restated that there's nothing that can be done, it's just the way it is although he hasn't ever had any other complaints about it. He did document our third warranty complaint in the system.

We spoke with the store and they are willing to exchange the machine but I don't know that another Kenmore will be any better.

Anyone else have this problem? My parents have a similar Kenmore at least 6 years old with no problems. It looks different in the vent area.

dishwasher leaks from vent

OneBadBug,

I've got the same dishwasher, but several years older and have the same problem you described. The problem only recently developed, however. We use it quite a lot, sometimes running it several times a day (triplets). Odd that it would not leak for several years but then start. That would seem to suggest that is is due to wear and not a factory design flaw. Based on your post, I'm ready to implement the ultimate fix- a rag on the floor. Let me know if you have solved it yet.

Leaking Vent

I have the exact same issue. Door goes down, water leaks out, I go get the paper towel to wipe it up. Daily routine.
There has to be a fix! What can we do? We just installed about two years ago. I think its been happening since day one, but we didn't pay much attention to it.
