Kenmore transmission question
In trying to repair my washer, I dropped my transmission down by removing the 3 bolts that held it in, but can't figure out how to get it to go back up so I can fasten it back into place. I'm guessing there is some groove or something that I am missing but it won't come close enough to even get the bolts where I can start threading them. Any suggestions? I'm banging my head with frustration at this.

Take gearcase out, look in hole where it goes there is a plastic lever that works brake, move lever to release brake and push the brake assy up. look in clutch and see spring make sure it is on opposite side from lever. Gearcase will go in now.

Well, I was excited when I saw your reply pugsl, but when I looked at it again the only thing I saw to remove would be the nuts that hold the top plate to the gearcase. I didn't think that's what you meant and I couldn't see any way to remove the gearcase other than the 3 bolts I had already removed that caused me this grief in the first place! It sure seems like it should be simple but guess I'm not the maytag repairperson. LOL Thanks for your help though!!

Lets go back to start. Did you remove the gearcase all the way out or just remove the 3 bolts and it dropped down a little way? Did yo take out agitator first? Have to remove bolt that holds on agitator and take agitator out + spring clip under agitator it there.

I only removed the 3 bolts and it dropped a little. Removing it all the way is what I am now trying to do based on the first reply from pugsl. Looks like I need to remove the agitator now, and I remove that from inside the washer, correct? Then the tranny will drop the rest of the way out? (I did not even need the tranny off but wasn't sure so mistakenly removed the 3 bolts, now I'm kicking myself)

I relayed all this to the washer owner and he did get the agitator off, moved the lever, pushed up what he thinks is the brake assy but the tranny still didn't go in. I'll go over after work and try it too. Also, will look for the tan plastic coupler as szm200 suggested. Will let you know!!

We are talking about same part I think. Turn it and brake will release and than assy. should go up.
