Kenmore dryer runs in certain timer positions

I have a Kenmore dryer that will only run in certain positions of the timer switch. If it is set in the timed dry position, it will not start. If I rotate it to the touch up position it will run for a couple minutes with heat, then go through the cool down cycle. I took the knob off the timer switch and used vise grips to hold the timer from rotating and I can dry clothes, then release the timer for the cool down cycle. Does this sound like a timer issue? It seems like the motor, thermal switches, element etc are all working, just maybe the timer switch is not working correctly.

Thanks for the help.
