"Surface On" light won't turn off... but why?
Hi. I have a basic Hotpoint electric stove. One year old. The orange "surface on" light stays lit thought the burners are nice and cold. Any ideas? These basic stoves seem very simple, electronically. I appreciate any help.

Maybe one surface burner switch has a short.
But first make sure that every control knob acts the same by feel - that it can pop back out like the others, when it is truly off. If you are certain nothing is wrong there, then....
Unplug stove.
Access control panel. Trace wire between light and control switches. You likely will find that wire daisy chained to all 4 burner control switches, plugged onto each one on a spade.
First unplug them all from all 4 switches. If the light does go out when you plug the stove back in, then find out which oine it is, by only unplugging one at a time. Use caution.
