Kenmore Washer 11044932202 Loud Noise
My washer (6yr old front load)functions properly except for the spin cycle. I have a very loud banging noise but only when the spin cycle reaches the highest RPM. The noise is loud enough to run ya outta the house. I took the back panel off did a visual inspection....nothing looks broken and sounds like the noise is coming from the pulley shaft. Are there bearings behind the pulley? Are they replaceable or do I have to purchase the entire outter tub assembly.
thanks

Without actually hearing the noise, it could be many different things causing it. Here are some things to check:
Make sure nothing is hitting or against the outside of the washer (including the dryer). I had this happen and it was the drain hose hitting the back of the washer when it was spinning.
Pull the front/lower cover off and inspect for anything that could be hitting the inside during spin. Check the four shocks to see if any are loose/broken.
You could potentially have a worn rear drive pulley causing excessive play. The shaft is steel and the pulley is a cast aluminum. Grab the pulley like a steering wheel and rock it back and fourth to feel for play. Check for anything else that could be loose.
Possible bad main bearing. Open the door and lift up on the spin basket to see if there is excessive play. The rear tub half and possibly the spin basket would need to be replaced. Check for possible warranty.
Hope this helps....

try to turn basket by hand should turn freely and smooth. If it feel rough or makes noise when you spin it by hand you will need a rear tub and basket. Ck. your warranty ( it's in your owners manual parts might be covered)

I can turn the basket freely without noise....the noise only appears when the spin cycle is at its highest rpm...and it is really loud banging noise...are the bearings behind the pulley replaceable or do I need to replace the entire hub and basket. If I have to replace the entire hub and basket it seems I would be better off replacing the washing machine.

bearing are not replaceable, you need a tub. Check your warranty, Tub should be 10 years and basket lifetime.
