Question portable dishwasher plug separating from electrical cord.

hi everyone,

i just joined and look forward to interacting on this great web site.

please excuse the lack of capitalization, as that pc key is unfortunately broken.

i would appreciate some help regarding my maytag jet clean portable dishwasher.

the problem is the electrical plug has begun to separate from the electrical cord and not broken off, but on 1 side you can definitely see the inside wires.

does anyone know if i can fix this and replace the whole electrical cord myself, or is it a job requiring a pro?

i won't use it now as i am afraid of a potential house fire or getting shocked, and i don't think wrapping electrical tape around it would make me breathe easier and use it. i would rather be safe than sorry.

here is some information and if more is needed please just ask.
model# is mdc4100awx
motor # is 5.5a 120 volts
heater is 6.oa max load 11.0a

the maytag black jet clean portable dishwasher is 24 inches in width, and is a full size portable dish washer. and it is about 7 years old. still works quite well with no other problems other than the electrical plug beginning to separate from the electrical cord.

any sound safe advice would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Cord sets for dishwashers are available usually in the dishwasher aisle of the Bigbox home improvement store. A garbage disposal cord set should also work. You may also find cord sets in the electrical aisle. you need at least a #16 or the size recommended by the manufacturer.

On a built in DW the cord goes in to a junction box with a removable cover. I would guess the same would be true for a portable DW. If not post back.
