infrared ice maker won't stop making ice

I have a Conquest side by side. The ice maker has an infrared light sensor to sense when ice needs to be made. When ice blocks the sensor from recieving the IR light, it should stop making ice. But it never stops. I know I could bag it and sell it here in FL but I'd really like to be able to get it to stop! Help!

I wanted to add some more info to my problem. Even when I turn the switch off to block the sensor from recieving the IR signal, ice is still made. the only way I can stop it is to turn off the water behind the fridge which is a huge pain. Thanks for any help!

The sensors could have a film of scale on them preventing the receiver from detecting the reflected IR.
Use a descaler like CLR on a cloth to carefully clean the sensor surfaces.

thanks for the reply! however, a blocked sensor is what should turn it off, not cause it to keep making ice. Clearing the frost off the sensor would fix the problem if ice was NOT being made. Any other ideas?
