Kenmore 80 series washer spin cycle

I have a kenmore 80 series top load washer. It works just fine until it reaches the spin cycle. It will drain all the water, but will not actually spin to remove the water from the clothes. During this cycle the knob moves all on its own and shuts off ok (timer ok, I belive) but makes a noise every 5-10 secs until the spin cyle is done. Any ideas?

Make sure it is agitating, Sounds like the drive coupler is broken but if it is it will not agitate if it is. Noise is probably the water pump and is normal

It does agitate thru the cylces. It is just the spin cycle... water will drain but the drum will not spin to remove the water from the clothing. It sounds like it is working but the drum is not spinning.

Tilt washer back against wall and look under it. Around cabinet about 6 inches up you may see a streak of oil. If there you need a top seal in gearcase , clutch and drive coupler.

Could this machine be old enough vintage that it might only be the lid switch?

If it was lid switch it would not drain.

i am having the same problem with my 80 series washer. water is pumped out but the spin does not engage, can hear the motor runing.

is there a repair manual available for this machine.
there is a ring of a gasket type material tha seems like it is not in the right location but can't tell where it belongs.

Kenmore 80 Series Spin Problem

I have a spin problem, everything else works, and there is no grease leak. Motor seems to spin and drain water. It also agitates.

Did you see the agitator working? most likely is the drive coupler.but would not agitate either.

Kenmore 80 Series machine won't spin

Great site! I have a Kenmore 80 Series, serial # 110-92281100. It washes and drains but will not spin automatically ( I can manually set it to spin cycle and sometimes get it to spin but not at top speed). I removed the lid button years ago. A technician came to the house and said I needed a transmission - rebuilt at $100 or new at $200. So far (four days later) he still has not been able to locate a rebuilt tranny. Is this something I can replace myself? Can I find a rebuilt trannys for this machine on-line?

Google Whrilpool gearcase where are pages of sites that deal with them, how to repair to replace or buy. Kenmore is built by Whrilpool
