Kenmore Heavy Duty 70 Series

model 110.82671120
will not spin/drain
took apart and removed pump. hoses and pump impeller clear. reassembled and ran thru short cycle. made clicking noise when in rinse/spin cycle and burning odor coming from machine. machine stopped and now will not rinse/spin/drain.

before I take apart again, what should I target for replacement? I would like to know what I need before buying parts to cost justify. I've been using these boards for years. Invaluable advice, empowering and time & $ saving. THANK YOU!

Where is the clicking noise coming from? Have you checked lid switch? Most common problem for no spin. Dose it agitate?

from below - I'm thinking motor or coupling, but could it be the pump itself? The impeller moves and did discharge water when I ran first test after reinstalling.

The impeller simply connects to hoses and sits in front of motor.

tested again this morning - still filled with water. the cotton cycle did spin and drain. halfway thru I moved to other cycles - their spin and drain - and it DID function, but made noise. I am trying to run perm press cycle all the way thru with a medium sized load. I hope it works. The noise DOES bother me. I did disconnect/reconnect both hoses from pump. I completely removed the discharge hose (inside machine) and rinsed it and pump to ensure no clogs. I also disconnected the inlet hose (inside machine) when removing cabniet. I also removed the top of the basket and washed/rinsed. Again, everything is tightly reconnected.

One thing I was NOT able to figure out on this model, was how to remove the agitator as I wanted to disassemble the basket and clean/check for any small clothing that may have worked its way into pump area. I figured as long as I had the machine torn apart, might as well give it a good cleaning and tune-up.

Any other suggestions for what could be causing noise AND preventative maintenance (again, since I might have to go back in)?

Thanks.

got to rinse cycle again and now it is humming, but doing nothing. I suspect coupling or motor. going to investigate coupling and possibly replace (less expensive first step). watching for replies before I head to store.

taking apart AGAIN. Pulled off motor and pump. Dusty. Wiped down and sprayed with compressed air. Coupling looks okay and pump moves freely. I'm not yet convinced I need to replace either. Hmmmm...

Line up coupler is the hardest part. I always put top clip in first and snap on motor , than put lower clip on. I am guessing motor also. The agitator has a top cap either turns off or pops off. There is either a 7/16 bolt or a 9/16 nut to remove and than agitator will pull off.
